The Christian soldier must avoid two evils—he must not faint or yield in the time of fight, and after a victory he must not wax insolent and secure. Two verses come to mind in the support of this exhortation.
he must not faint or yield in the time of fight “Like a trampled spring and a polluted well
Is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.” (Proverbs 25:26)
and after a victory he must not wax insolent and secure. When he has overcome, he is so to behave himself as though he were presently again to be assaulted. “Let not him who is putting on his armor, speak as one taking it off.” (King Ahab to Ben Hadad of Syria) “Then the king of Israel replied, “Tell him, ‘Let not him who girds on his armor boast like him who takes it off.’”
We don’t remove our armor in this life until we die or at the resurrection, whichever comes first.
